Deity help

Post by nick_crenshaw82 »

Could I get a list of gods who were formerly mortals, separated by pantheon?

You might do some searching in the Greyhawk wiki at https://greyhawkonline.com/greyhawkwiki ... =Main_Page but after that I'd start by digging into the old 3.x Greyhawk Gods lists from Wizards (reprinted in part in the Living Greyhawk Journal #2 or #3 and in the Living Greyhawk Gazetter), then start filtering based on which gods you decide began life as mortals.

Yeah, honestly we don't know for sure which gods were formerly mortals. It's possible that some had mortal lives long before recorded history. Maybe all gods were mortal at some point.

Also, the "pantheons" aren't necessarily rigid things; many gods are "common" and worshiped by everyone regardless of their ethnic origin.

However, the following deities were definitely, or almost definitely, mortal at some point:

Al'Akbar (Baklunish)
Azor'alq (Baklunish)
Charmalaine (halfling pantheon)
Saint Cuthbert (common deity; no pantheon)
Daern (Oeridian)
Daoud (Baklunish)
Diancastra (giant pantheon)
Doresain (ghoul pantheon)
Gadhelyn (elven pantheon)
Gendwar Argrim (dwarf pantheon)
Heward (common deity; no pantheon)
Iuz (considered to be part of the Flan pantheon, though not personally of Flan descent)
Johydee (Oeridian)
Kelanen (unknown)
Keoghtom (common deity; no pantheon)
Kiaransalee (drow pantheon)
Krovis (Flan)
Kuroth (Oeridian)
Kyuss (Flan)
Mayaheine (comes from a parallel world)
Mellifleur (lich pantheon)
Nazarn (half-orc/Suel)
Nebelun (gnomish pantheon)
Raxivort (xvart pantheon)
Roykyn (gnomish pantheon)
Rudd (Oeridian)
Vathris (Flan)
Vecna (Flan)
Wastri (bullywug pantheon)
Ye'Cind (elven pantheon)
Zagyg (common deity; no pantheon)
Zinzerena (drow pantheon)
Zuoken (Baklunish)

I think they all would. Here's an earlier thread on Greyhawk deities as Immortals . Note that the earliest Immortals may never have been Mortal, even in the Mystara setting.
Al'Akbar (Baklunish) - Patron: Pelor
Azor'alq (Baklunish) - Patron: Pelor
Charmalaine (halfling pantheon) - Patron: Fharlanghn and Brandobaris
Saint Cuthbert (common deity; no pantheon) - Patron: likely Rao
Daern (Oeridian) - Patron: Delleb
Daoud (Baklunish) - Patron: Istus
Diancastra (giant pantheon) - Patron: Annam
Doresain (ghoul pantheon) - Patron: Orcus
Gadhelyn (elven pantheon) - Patron: Fenmarel
Gendwar Argrim (dwarf pantheon) - Patron: Clanggedin Silverbeard
Heward (common deity; no pantheon) -
Iuz (considered to be part of the Flan pantheon, though not personally of Flan descent)
Johydee (Oeridian) - Patron: likely Pelor
Kelanen (unknown) - Patron: likely Boccob
Keoghtom (common deity; no pantheon) - Patron: Fharlanghn
Kiaransalee (drow pantheon) - Patron: none (her ascension predates Lolth's fall)
Krovis (Flan) Patron: Trithereon
Kuroth (Oeridian) - Patron: Olidammara
Kyuss (Flan) - Patron: Nerull
Mayaheine (comes from a parallel world) - Patron: Pelor
Mellifleur (lich pantheon) Patron: Nerull

I was just using his rules on deities which separates into Gods (deities that were never mortal) and Immortals (who were mortal).
