I figured he would be fun to update to 5e.

I'm not familiar with Demodragon. I take it he's a unique being?

Not smart for such a powerful creature, is he! And it's very interesting that he can't talk! No negotiating with this one.

The old Dungeons and Dragons cartoon! This was Venger’s creation who turned against him and once again Bobby, Uni and the rest of the crew got the best of him.

And yeah, he’s kind of a big dope - just a gigantic force of nature really, though he is obsessed with magic items.

Really! I didn't know (or forgot) that was his name. Now it all makes sense.

Thank you! I modeled him off of an ancient red dragon that has +16, but you’re probably correct. Red dragons are much smarter and attentive and it makes sense for them to get the doubling bonus to stats - but not so much Demodragon

I just noticed I wrote demo”gorgon” in there a few times - going to have to edit it.

they give dragons (all) double prof bonus to perception, and then add wisdom mod (as that is what peception is)

so, demodragon ought have...+17, assuming it's prof bonus is +8, as other parts would show. So, my bad actually, you had it right!

No worries! I’m more concerned with his CR at this moment. The math gets wonky up around there.

Been fine tuning him a little, but I am finding a tough time including him in my campaign. I have time because my current players are nowhere near the level to take on a threat like this, but I really want him in there during my endgame.

Can anyone think of a reason to include Demodragon in a campaign? Maybe a byproduct of the events of Out of the Abyss?

I know he sure doesn't fit in Maztica or Anchorome...

big dumb mighty ground-bound dragon?
seems obvious to use, the only thing against it IS the CR...it appears most do not play uber high level much still.

I think his intelligence is exactly the thing that makes him usable though. He could probably be lured into a trap quite easily making Demodragon’s destruction almost the whole point of an adventure.

In the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon, the heroes were basically just young kids but they found a “poison” of sorts known as dragonbane that was really effective on Demodragon. Granted, it made him “shimmer and disappear” but I could see it instead weakening or doing some intense damage to the dragon making his CR less intimidating.
